Olwë Reflects and Makes a Decisions

< Prev  Alqualondë

Casting a glance skywise, Olwe notices the clouds sweeping across like a thin gauze across the moon, at time obscuring it from view but only diffusing the bright light of the orb.  He breathes a name, "Tilion, " his voice soft and musical.  Tilion, Guardian of the Moon, protector of the Teleri in the centuries since the kinslaying.

Olwe's heart was filled with sorrow for the loss of life, both Noldor and Teleri.  For untold days after untold days, he would trek down to the docks, alone, while those who survived slumbered, hearing again the cries of battle, seeing kinsmen fall.  Over time, from his sky palace,  Tilion came to watch the sad Teleri king, and feel a deep compassion for his sorrow.  Night after night, unknown to Olwe, Tilion came to keep vigil, too, until one night, he decided to come and reveal himself to Olwe.

King though he was, Olwe was shy before this handsome Ainu, and at first was deferential.  But as Tilion spoke kindly to him, his shyness melted, and they talked long into the night.

That was the beginning of many nights of many conversations...until each eagerly looked for the other, and Olwe could not remember a time when Tilion was not there.  Tilion, for his part, could not remember a time when his heart knew such as joy as when he was with shy Olwe.

When, and how, and who first realized their hearts had found each other...that is up to Tilion and Olwe to reveal.  But suffice to say, that in time, Olwe gave his heart joyfully to the Guardian of the Moon, and Tilion for his part, found a love he could not have forseen in the great song of Creation.

A summons came, now months past, from Might Manwe himself, summoning Tilion to join the other Valar and Ainur.  Tilion was very somber as he took his leave of Olwe, a haunted look in his usually clear eyes. Now, in the crisp night air, he still remembers the warmth of Tilion's arms and the tightness of the smile he gave the elf king, assuring him they would again see each other soon.

The moon blurred in his vision, as tears rose to his eyes.  Olwe blinked several times, recalling himself to the present. "My people would be here still, were Tilion our protector still, " he whispered with some force.  He shook himself and walked to the docks, eyeing one of the ships, still in the harbor, which conveyed the Teleri to the Swanhaven centuries upon centuries ago.  Casting an eye out over the see.  "Lord of the seas, Ulmo, " I mean to travel to the throne of Lord Manwe himself, and have such answers as he may deign to give me. I can no longer stay here and do nothing.  I shall set sail as soon as I can prepare.  Pray watch over my boat and give aid to me, as I set sail alone and withou crew."

Olwe glanced back up at the moon, peeking from behind the clouds. "I pray  that at the very least, I may behold the gentle eyes of Lord Tillion and hear the wisdom of the High King of all Arda."
