RP Platform for Dawn of the 4th Age

November 18, 2011
AelKennyr Rhiano

Alqualonde the Swanhaven (105, 153, 1501)

Guidelines:

1. Platform is 240 x 240, and so can accommodate more than one rp setting, if planned in advance.

2. All active rpers can use the rp platform. However:
 * You may not delete or  move anything that is already on the platform. If something is there, please contact Ael or Belenos.  There may be another rp planned.
* You should let your rp leader or an Eldar know you need the platform, so there are no mix-ups, or scheduling conflicts.
*You may not use the platform for rp that is not related to the Dawn of the 4th Age.

3. You may not use the platform as a sandbox under any conditions. If you need to build something for the rp, it should not be done on the platform.

4. You can rezz on the platform whatever you need for your rp.

5. If you are going to use a "set" for  your rp (like a house or a palace, for example ) and for several others within a short amount of time, IM Ael to let him know. If possible, arrangements can be made to leave the items up there until they are no longer needed.
*However, please do not expect things to set out for months because you have a rp story that will use those things. This ties up the platform and prevents its use by others.

6. There is a 1,000 temporary pim allowance for the entire rp platform. So, please be reasonable in your rp needs. Don't rezz an 700 prim build for example, when there is already 400 prims on the platform. If you go over your prim allowance, your things will be returned, and if you do it repeatedly, you will lose the right to rezz prims on the platform.

Code of Arms

Sakura Easterwood and  Lihan Taifun

We know rules are often boring to read, but knowing these will keep you safe from being told off. How cool is that?!
But on serious matter: Please read these carefully, to avoid trouble.

- General Rules
- Weapon Rules
- Armor Rules
- Additional Rules for Dragons
- Additional Rules for Balrogs and Ainur

- No Godmodding
-----------------------
1) This means you can't always hit or avoid, just cause you are not wearing a meter. Play it fair and take hits when needed.
This also means you can't use more powers than you have and you're not invincible unless you specify it in your character sheet and if the roleplay commission approved it.
2) Do not ever rule a different person's character. They are not puppets and have their own mind.

- Weapon Rules
-----------------------
1) Only weapons you would see in the LOTR series are allowed. Think of: Swords, Axes, Bow and Arrows, Daggers.
For a clear idea of what is and what is not allowed: If it wasn't used in the Middle Ages, it can't be used here. We do not allow modern weapons like guns and rifles and the like. If we catch you with these you will be taken out of the fight till further notice.
2) In case you are using a crossbow, remember it may be powerful, but loading is also slower than a bare bow and the range will be fewer.
3) If you use a bare bow, you will need to be experienced to be able to shoot fast. If you didn't have a good training in it in your background, remember you got to learn still. Same goes for aiming. If you aren't practiced, aiming will be off.
4) In both cases, the aim will be influenced by the distance. Even the best archer will have a difficult aim with 50+ meters
5) Heavy Melee weapons have the advantage to do more damage then a small sword, but here also counts: The bigger and heavier, the harder to wield. You'll need to be strong and it will slow you down and tire you faster.
6) Throwing weapons: Though they are ranged weapons, they aren't able to go as far as arrows, aren't as powerful and aim will be sufficiently less on greater distances. On a distance of 10 meters you will have to be exceptionally good to hit target. Also when you move it will influence your aim.
7) If you use magic, IM Lihan Taifun or Sakura Easterwood for details.

- Armor Rules
-------------------
Light Armor:
1) Light armor would include Leather and Fur. These will be light and allow you to move rather freely, but the protection will not be very high. It will also wear out faster then the heavy armor as it is made of soft material.
2) Because light armor is soft material, it will not protect against arrows, thrusts or stabs and thrown weapons.
3) Fur would protect against Cold Attacks, but it will burn away with fire. And it makes it harder to run away than with Leather.
4) Leather will be no protection against fire as it would melt, against cold it will be small protection for a limited time. But running away is easier.

Heavy Armor:
1)Heavy armor will have a better protection, but it will also slow you down, tire you faster unless well trained and might get in the way of some weapons. Also if you fall wearing heavy armor, getting back up will take longer.
2) Heavy armor is hard material, so it will stop most thrusts, stabs and arrows, but heavy weapons will still cause serious concussions and broken bones. It might stop you from getting "cut" by a sword, but you still take the force of the impact.
3) If an arrow is shot from close range it could still go through heavy armor.
4) If you would want to wear a combination of light and heavy armor and need to know the rules, contact either Lihan Taifun or Sakura Easterwood with your questions.
5) Allthough heavy armor protects better against swords and the like, it is no good against a dragon or Balrog. The heavy armor is made of an iron, meaning that if a Balrog or Dragon attacks with fire it will heat up and eventually burn you. If it gets very cold of Ice Attacks it will also harm you.

- Additional Rules for Dragons
--------------------------------------
Okay, let's be honest, Dragons are powerful beings.
We disadvise against challenging them but for the brave souls that would still like to challenge them and the dragons themselves...Please read these rules:

1) The skin of dragons is very tough and therefor will give a little more protection than heavy armor. However, close range arrows or spears can still penetrate a dragon. They are not invincible.
2) The weapons of a dragon are mainly their claws, teeth and breaths. Claws can penetrate just like a sword, but heavy armor does protect some against it.
3) The breaths of a dragon are powerful, but will not be able to for example incinerate a person. They can however deal great damage and have additional effects depending on the breath.
4) If the tail is used it can't cut or penetrate, but it can be used like a heavy blunt weapon.
5) The eyes and mouth are vulnerable. They are weak points even for a dragon. As well as the belly.

- Additional Rules for Balrogs
---------------------------------------
Brave adventurer (or maybe foolish, that line is thin)
So you want to challenge a Balrog? Alright it is not high on our list of recommendations but if you insist and to the Balrogs of 4th Age: Please read these rules or may Lord Eru keep you safe...

1) Balrogs seem to favor firewhips. These won't do amazing damage, but they are highly capable of causing burns adding additional damage. The more you are hit by the whip of a Balrog, the more damage you receive.
2) Balrogs may be powerful and have a body of rock, they are still vulnerable cause of their fire. Water or Ice Magic will cause great damage on a Balrog if cast correctly. A smart Balrog will stay away from bodies of water.
3) Balrogs can fly a little but to avoid any godmode characters, they aren't very powerful fliers.

Additional Rules for Ainur
-------------------------------------
Ainur are peaceful beings that won't fight unless their land is really threatened. So players, let's try not to anger the Ainur now shall we? If a fight does occure, here are the rules for Ainur and their foes:

1) Ainur will not attack, unless their land is in real danger or against demons and Balrogs. They will NEVER attack Mortals.
2) Though they are angelic beings, Ainur too need armor to stay safe.
3) Ainur can get hurt just as mortals, in this case they will be out of the battle for the day. Though they heal considerably faster.
4) Ainur that get killed can make their new body the next day.
5) For additional powers but conventional weapons, please contact Lihan Taifun or Sakura Easterwood.

Rules of Engagement

For skirmishes or one-on-one combat. the sim on which the conflict will take place may choose to use text based combat or use a hud.
If the sim uses text based, they must also provide moderators for the rp. If they use hud based, they will provide the judges. If there is any argument over the procedure and protocol. it will be resolved at that sim's local level unless if violates our rp limits. In that case...our word is final...

For battles and large scale conflicts...we will use spellfire and will use a notecard method to spell out the particular rules of that particular battle. It will reflect the geography of the sim in which the battle will take place, denoting if there are any safe zones, etc.

Those who wish to participate in the battle will have one hour before the battle begins to hand in their notecard. It must be completely and correctly filled in and turned into the generals of each "army." If it is not, they may not participate in the battle....no exceptions. They can always hand their notecards in early, but never past the deadline.

Battles will start on time...if a general is late without reason...his army forfeits the battle. Each general has a second in command so there is no excuse for the battle to start late.

CRITERIA FOR SIMS WISHING TO JOIN THE FELLOWSHIP-- effective 11/23/09
-    Must be medieval/fantasy based sims, pre-industrial in nature, compatible with Tolkien's world.
-    Must have a history and setting to their realm, and a direction for their role play that is or can be made compatible to ours.
-    Must use Spellfire meters for intersim combat.  Local protocols apply for local 4th and local sim rp. For 4th Age RP combat, 4th Age ROE must be used.
-    Must adhere to the 4th Age rp limits for all 4th Age. The Fellowship reserves the right not to post rp notecards that violate the RP limits.
--All rp notecards MUST be submitted to AelKennyr Rhiano for reviewed. They cannot be posted directly.  All cards should have in the title, "Dawn of the 4th Age."
--Once a role play notecard has been submitted to an elder for perusal, it becomes the property of the elder and he may share that notecard at his discretion.  It cannot remain solely between the eldar and the role player.  Nor can a rper dictate what the editor will or won't do with the rp notecard.  Ael reserves the right to edit, withhold, or reject a rp notecard at his discretion and to alert and consult with the Council of Elders should he feel the need.
-   For consistency and ease of use, the Fellowship has developed a chat repeater and name tag style that allows Tolkien based rpers to engage in rp with fantasy based rpers, and this titler is provided to all tolkien based rpers
-    Does not have to be Tolkien based, but does have to be able to weave their story with ours – being set in the Fourth Age this should be easy enough done from our standpoint.
-    Trial period of ‘association’ – as one would with any land one wants to become affiliated with. Generally, within 2-3 months, if the match is beneficial to both the local sim and the fellowship, it will be obvious. The sim should be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain a rp presence in the 4th Age and produce rp on a regular basis, as determined by the nature of the local rp and with the Guidance of the Eldars and other rp leaders.
-    Willingness to work WITH the existing members for the shared goal of enhancing and enjoying the role play of our lands.
-     Be overall drama free and mature in their approach to the Role Play, but be prepared to have fun as well.

RP LIMITS -- effective 7/27/10
1. Local rp and 4th age may overlap but they are two separate things. But Fellowship rp limits are binding on all 4th age rp only. The Fellowship does not presume to dictate local rp policy.
2. No age play of any sort. However child avs are allowed in the 4th Age rp.
3. No rape scenes of any sort. No violent consensual sexual encounters.
4. No collaring, or slave capture rp of any sort.
5.  No Bloodlines or rp of a similar nature.
6.  Scenes of a graphically violent or sexual nature, impregnation, and birth should not be submitted for group sharing, but, rather, amended to exclude the most graphic elements and contain a simple summary. Such scenes may still be played out by the players individually, however, with limits agreed to beforehand.

ESTABLISHMENT OF A GAMES MISTRESS (GAME LEADER) -- effective 10/04/10
As Games Mistress, Sakura Easterwood will oversee those rpers who wish to acquire special powers or abilities not given to their race or class as part of their natural talents.  Rpers will have to make a logical case for the desired abilities/powers and she will weigh the merits of the request and consult with Ael.  If allowed, a quest will be made for the rper.  How the rper handles the quest will determine if they are granted that spell or abiltiy.

Games Mistress can also serve as an arbitor between rpers who are disputing an event in a rp or she can investigate any questions of godmodding, metagaming or breaking of rp limits.  She could even be called upon to record a rp if requested.

She can be called upon to be the eyes, ears and justice of the Elders. Their justice will be determined by protocol preferences and will be a qualified one.

TRANSFERENCE OF LITERARY CHARACTERS FROM ANOTHER OUTSIDE RP -- effective 4/15/11
We will no longer accept a transference of a literary rp character a person has from another rp, even if that rp is not active, into the 4th Age without proof of commitment to the role in the rp from which that character originated. Those who wish to transfer their rp character to the Dawn of the 4th Age rp will be expected to fill out an application COMPLETELY and to address how active they were in priors rps where they had that role.

INACTIVITY OF RPERS IN THE FELLOWSHIP RP (USE IT OR LOSE IT RULE) -- effective 4/15/11
If a rper has not been active in the rp for two-three months and has not given the race leader or sim owner a reason  for the absence or even a heads up, then in the case of a literary character, the rper will lose that role. They may re-apply for a nonliterary role but will not be consider for any major role until they demonstrated six months of consistent presence and rp in the 4th Age. It will then be up to the race leader to recommend they be restored to a literary role or denied. During the time they do not have the role, there is NO guarantee that it will be still be available at the end of the six months.

USE OF INDEPENDENT ARBITRATORS-- effective 5/19/11
The use of observers (arbitrators) is the best and most effective way of ensuring that text based rp combat  or interaction between enemies or potential enemies would be conducted in a fair manner in accordance to the rp limits of the fellowship. This is applicable only in those situations where the conflict is limited to one-on-one or small skirmishes where the outcome of the interaction or combat has not been predetermined.

Eldars themselves will serve as the arbitrators. If rpers are going to do a text based rp in which the end is not predetermined an arbitrator must be on hand to witness the rp.  This will ensure fair play, also will make editng the rp narrative easier and more fluid, and will keep the Elders connected with the ongoing rp and with the rpers themselves.  Rpers would need to coordinate such text based interaction or combat rp not only with the other rpers involved but with a Elder BEFOREHAND to act as impartial observer.

In the case of a spontaneous text based interaction bewteen enemies, potential enemies or combat rp, a raw chatlog should be sent as soon as the rp is done to an Eldar for review before editing the rp notecard and sending it to Ael.  Any who enter into such a sponatneous interaction without an observer present would do so with the understanding that if the Eldar deems it necessary the scene may have to be redone.

Because conflict between adversaries may erupt during the natural course of the role play, any scenes with enemies or potential enemies involved should be observed. It must be understood that the observer  would not be judging quality of the role play but rather, making sure it stays balanced and true to the character's abilities.

REGARDING OWNERSHIP OF RP NOTECARDS SUBMITTED FOR POSTING-- effective 5/22/11
All rp notecards MUST be submitted to AelKennyr Rhiano for reviewed. They cannot be posted directly.  All cards should have in the title, "Dawn of the 4th Age."
Once a role play notecard has been submitted to an elder for perusal, it becomes the property of the elder and he may share that notecard at his discretion.  It cannot remain solely between the eldar and the role player.  Nor can a rper dictate what the editor will or won't do with the rp notecard.  Ael reserves the right to edit, withhold, or reject a rp notecard at his discretion and to alert and consult with the Council of Elders should he feel the need.

REGARDING RPERS, JUDGMENTS AND DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS-- effective 5/22/11
Conversations between elders and rpers regarding rules, protocols, story ideas or the rp itself are NOT confidential. If a role player is disciplined by the council they may not discuss the action taken by the council with either the elders or other Fellowship role players once the discipline is in force.

ADDING RP CHARACTERS TO THE RP-- effective 5/22/11
If a role player wishes to add an extra character to the role play who is not currently registered with the Fellowship, the role players MUST inform an Elder of this before submitting the role play notecard. If the Elder approves the additional character, the one wishing to play the additional character MUST submit a role play application BEFORE the role play notecard is submitted to the Elders.

The need for additional rp characters will, of course, come in in the course of a rp storyline. HOWEVER, a rper may not create a rp position solely for the express purpose of it being assigned to a person who has not submitted an application for rp prior to that rp scene's existence.

ASSIGNMENT OF  RP CHARACTERS-- effective 5/22/11
Only the role play leaders may assign role play roles.  Any newly created rp characters will be considered to be available to any interested parties who currently have an application submitted, and the selection of the individual remains the purview of the respective rp leader and the Council of Elders.
