Some RP Expectations ...

There are some things that are expected of all rpers, but especially in the 4th Age. It is my unhappy duty to write this, but some courtesies are being ignored, and it simply cannot continue. So, while not pointing fingers at any one person, or one rp scene, please observe the following.

1. It is fine to prewrite some of your posts, but please READ WHAT OTHERS ARE POSTING DURING THE ACTUAL ROLEPLAY!!!! Really! Don't post what you prewrite, not looking at what is being rped around you and then expect the whole of the rp to adjust to what you prewrote.  If you want to use something prewritten, that is fine, but be willing to edit it to suit the live rp that is going on.

2.  Do not post several paragraphs of  ongoing actions without allowing anyone else in the rp a chance to post between those paragraphs.  IT'S RUDE!  And it is metagaming.

3. If you have issues with the rp coming up, then discuss it with the rpers prior to the actual rp. Don't wait until that night and create a situation where everyone has to stop everything and discuss an issue that could have been resolved days before.  We have Thursday nights now reserved for RP Planning, in Alqualonde, at 7pm slt. If you cannot make that and need an issue resolved, contact one of the Eldars or the rp leaders.

4. Respect your fellow rpers!  Treat them as you would like to be treated. Don't be quarrelsome. Don't be disrespectful about their rp characters. Don't demean the rp character with OOC slurs or put-downs.  There are real people behind the keyboards.  Some people are playing unsavory characters. Some people are playing villains. Others are playing characters of great complexity.  If you have some questions about the actions of a rp character, talk TO the rper directly. Nothing is more unfair than going behind someone's back to another rper.

5. Be aware of all developments in the rp story. There is no excuse not to be. People forget details. That is more than understandable, but that is different than totally ignoring what your fellow rpers are revealing in the course of the rp.  Do not ignore the posts of others, even if you do not ICly respond to them. It is YOUR responsibility, SOLELY, to know BEFORE the rp scene what the scene is about and what is planned that night. If you miss a planning session, or are unsure, CONTACT SOMEONE IN THAT RP!!!!  Do not wait until that night, and then want to debate what is planned. Lihan does a heroic job of posting every single rp on the blog website, so anyone can go to that and see what has been posted at any given time. She has done an amazing job of cross referencing the rps, too.

6. Do not force the pace of a rp. Do not rp over others. It's fine you prewrite a lot of your posts, as I have said before. But allow others the luxury of writing their posts during the rp if you do that. Be willing, as I have stated before, to rewrite parts of your prewritten posts to be more in line with what is actually happening. Take your time with the scene. Do not rush the rp.  Do not push others in the rp because you know or think you know how the scene will end.

7. This is rp!  Do not take personally the actions or words of a character as the views or actions of the person behind the rp character.  What is said or done between characters IS between characters.  It is roleplay. The nicest woman on earth may be playing a slattern. That does not mean that outside of the rp, it should be bandied about that she is such.  An attack, whether verbal or physical in the rp is just that...rp. If you  feel like a line has been crossed, then discuss it with the person directly. If you cannot resolve the problem, then come to one of the rp leaders or one of the Eldars for resolution.

8.  I has asked this before. LABEL YOUR NOTECARDS CLEARLY WITH : "DAWN OF THE 4TH AGE-" AND THEN THE TITLE OF THAT RP SCENE.

Again, to repeat, this notecard is to address some undesirable trends in the rp, not to point fingers at any one rper. These trends take the joy away from the rp itself, causes frustration and no little aggravation, and makes it all the harder to concentrate on the rp itself. If you have any questions or concerns, please, contact me, or any of the rp leaders or Eldars.  We have a high expectation of our rpers and of ourselves...that all of us be the best of the best, and the most courteous rpers in all of SL. Those are standards that won't be lowered.

Let's continue to make the Dawn of the 4th Age a rp we can point to with pride.

Thank you,
Ael
