Irmo and Olwë's Torment

< Previous Olwë      < Previous Irmo

Shawn Daysleeper

Irmo, Lord of Dreams and sibling of Nienna and Mandos, walks alone in his garden of Lorien. He strides in his Teleri form, practicing his speech, walking, and practicing these so called "bodily functions" of which Ulmo had spoken. He even changed his clothes, for Ulmo stressed how important this habit was to the Teleri. As he walked, he noticed a dark, unusual entity in his garden.

He immediately identified the strange creature. It had been long time since he last gazed upon it. "Old One," Irmo said it's name aloud. This creature was the loyal servant of Mandos. Old One spoke telepathically to Irmo of Mandos' actions and his master's message to Tilion. Irmo nods, ready to deliver Tilion to his lover thru dream. Thanking Old One, Irmo shifts his thoughts as the creature departs.  His mind considers his mission. He hoped Tilion could calm the Teleri Lord's mind until he and his sister arrived in Alqualonde.

But at that moment, Irmo again felt a disturbance in the dimension of dreams. Pure chaos, evil and malevolent. Dark and horrific punctuations over which he had no control. The chaos always seem to affect the same children of the Firstborn, for they have occurred before. Instantaneously, he singled out the child being tormented.

"Olwe!" He changes into his graceful etherial form and drifts into the dream world. Horrified he thinks, "Has not his mind been tormented enough?" Olwe lay many leagues away in Sylvahara, but distance had no meaning to the Vala of Dreams. Within a flash Irmo attempted to penetrate his dream.

Like many times before, he failed. These disturbances have always shielded the dreamer from his own actions. Resolutely, and without regard to his own form, he summons all his psionic strength. He could do nothing. He could only watch while the Teleri Lord suffered. The chaos within the dream world intensified, even Irmo himself began to suffer. He saw illusions of blood, the fallen beautiful form of elves. He saw despair. Irmo feared he would lose his own sanity.

Desperate, Irmo needed to escape. He would be of no use to the Teleri Lord or Tilion without his own sanity. He saw the graceful form of Nole sleeping near the King. Without a thought, Irmo dives into Nole's dream to escape the torment...
