Cinnamon Raymaker
Elwing awoke from her deep slumber feeling refreshed but in a quandary. She knew if she tried to leave Alqualonde immediately, and the menace again attacked, she would be lost yet again and of no further use to her dear uncle. So she decided to rest awhile in the great swan city of her kin, the Teleri and regain her strength.
She carefully stood and stretched, feeling the blood run through her tired limbs to re-awaken them, ready for the walk she planned to take. Looking forward to rediscovering her long lost heritage, she set off at an easy pace to walk along the sandy beach, in order to find a way to ascend the rocky outbreak above.
As she rounded a particularly large outcrop, she stumbled across the beginnings of gentler mounds which would allow for easy traverse. Heart lifting, she hurried along the beach and then turned north and started up the gentle slope. As she reached the ascent her heart filled with joy to see, shining in the morning sun before her, the beautiful palace of Olwe. It beckoned to her as if the presence of her uncle called to her from its very heart.
As she looked across the land she spied many buildings flashing in the sunlight, the famed and familiar shape of the swans of the Teleri scattered throughout the landscape. Suddenly she felt calm - as if in seeing these swans, she started to remember the sea birds, her friends and her heart no longer felt the terror and loneliness she had experienced on finding she was alone and in a different land.
Elwing wandered between two columns into a structure surrounded with a pearlescent canopy. reminiscent of the beautiful mother of pearl she had seen in the realms of Lord Ulmo. It was striking how the fruits of sea and earth came together in this land of the Teleri. Marble, mithril, pearl and precious stones carefully and lovingly crafted to make a city where the Teleri would feel most at home.
As she left the building she looked out across a market place, noticing huge pearls in delicate shell-like structures resting carefully atop several buildings. She then retraced her steps, heading toward the hills from whence she had come and sought to further explore the natural areas of this land of the Teleri. Beautiful forests and waterfalls, hidden valleys with empty houses atop the hills. Somehow this saddened her, and a chill sat in her heart at the thought that the elven kind were here no longer. Then she recalled how she had found her way here .... and stopped herself short before she started to panic. Time enough to think on those things once she had finished exploring. She continued on through the narrow valley, past several small waterfalls, pausing at a small pool to sip the cold, clear water and slake her thirst. Then she walked on, wondering what sights she would behold as she went further.
As she approached the end of the valley, she spied the ocean ahead of her and once again felt at ease. She walked past empty buildings and noted the light in the lighthouse shone as brightly as it would have from the day it was positioned near the rocks of the harbour, which she now saw ahead of her. And there, swimming close to shore she spied the seabirds, her friends. She sat drinking in the salt air and listening to the gentle splashing and lapping of the waves. Pondering what she might be able to achieve if she summoned to help anyone in any way.
