Rescue!

< Previous

The mighty arms of the Lord of the Seas fling out to either side, his staff held high. Below him stands the Elven King, his chin lifted high, though Olwe's eyes widen at the appearance of the Lord of the Waters. Ulmo's ocean blue eyes narrow as he looks upon those creatures spawned from Melkor's twisted desires, and a terrible rage, as deep as the ocean, fills his heart with a cold and deadly purpose. "Foul Creatures born of twisted and deformed intent, this isle is under my Protection. Remove thyselves from my sight!" And beneath him the waters of the harbor begin to churn and foam and rise up.

Nole is not sure he can obey his king's command, finding safety seems out of the question. He rather would stay with his king. He looks up at the new being before them. He does not know who it was, but he does not feel the fear in his heart looking upon the newcomer. As the water churns and becomes violent, he is spellbound and cannot move. He stays by his King and Dominique.

Súraumo  arches his back and frantically backflaps with his wings, trying desperately to halt his forward plunge. Whatever this was ahead of him is not natural, and he is not about to attempt to fly through it. The tendons in his wings strain and creak with the effort of halting his charge. He roars with rage at the pain the effort brings to his old body.

Ulmo
As he watches, the dragon tries to pull himself up short. Instead of soothing the Lord of the Waters, it kindles a swirling, churning, rage. At his nod, a solid wall of water rises from the harbor of Alqualonde, between the elves below and the foul creatures before him. In a voice, dreadful and booming, Ulmo speaks. "BEGONE AND NEVER RETURN! THE LORD OF THE TELERI AND HIS LANDS AND PEOPLE ARE UNDER MY CARE!!! I, ULMO, COMMAND THIS! TURN BACK OR DIE!"

The balrog cowers from the wall of water rising out of the sea. The shock of this sudden unnatural interruption shakes him free for a moment from the battle lust. In addition to the wall of water, he detects power present, "present" in the way he could once detect his Dark Master's will. But this is certainly not the Master. "Water!" "Power!"Suddenly the pieces click together in the balrog's mind. Not the Master, but one of his brothers! "Pull up!" he shouts to the dragon. "Get us away! This is a Vala! We can't fight him!"

Dominque Darkwatch 's eyes widen, and she blinks against hot tears,as now her eyes open wide in wonder. She sheathes her sword, and as she hears the Lord of Water's booming voice. Her legs become weak, and she sinks to her knees as she whispers, "Lord Ulmo."

The wall of water

The dragon hesitates a moment, torn between his lust for the meal he knows lies behind the wall of water and his fear. Finally he snarls angrily and turns back out to sea, roaring his frustration and anger as he goes. He pauses once he is a safe distance out and stares back at the King still standing, safe and unharmed, on the docks. His eye gleams with malice as he vows, "You will pay for this day, Olwe, King of the Teleri. You and your land will pay for this day."

Turning again, he begins the long arduous journey back to Middle Earth.
