Elwing Comes to Alqualondë

< Previous

Sitting in the skiff belonging to Nimros, and cupped in the hand of Lord Ulmo, Elwing is cocooned in the eye of the tempest raging all around the Lord of the Seas as he beats his way to their destination. Though he presents an awesome manifestation of the turmoil she can feel, like electricity surging through the air, she holds no fear of this mighty Valar. Their association has, for so long been, one of destiny that she no longer holds any questions as to his motives. She fully believes in her heart and mind that the will of Iluvatar is behind all of the Valar's actions and places her trust in him completely.

As they continue their journey, Elwing's fears of the darkness in Vana gradually fade and she feels her inner strength returning. It is as if her very spirit is being renewed through this connection with her benefactor. Once again she gives thanks to Iluvatar for her life and prays silently for the lives of those she holds dear to her heart - her beloved who has disappeared from her sight and her uncle in Alqualonde - a place very dear to her heart and which had previously heeded her calls for help during the War of Wrath. Here perhaps was a chance for her to try and repay some of Alqualonde's past kindness, though as yet she knew not how.

Feeling the tempest abating around her and her motion slowing through the waves, Elwing looks ahead and sights the glittering city of the Teleri coming into view. She reaches up to touch the foaming beard of the Lord of The Seas, hoping he can sense her gratitude. She sits carefully in the skiff as it slows and catches a wave which takes her closer to the shore near the docks. Once again she can hear the flock of seabirds surrounding her as she carefully floats to the beach and steps ashore, taking with her the scant belongings she had packed for the journey.

Finding the place as deserted as it was when she had last landed here, Elwing makes her way up the hill to a nearby empty shelter and enters quietly, ensuring no-one is about. Here she tidies her hair and replaces the grubby leather explorer's outfit with a more feminine gown which would be more recognisable as court wear to any people who might be ensconced in the Teleri palace. She noticed a small number of new vessels in the port as she had arrived and really does not know what to expect when she ventures inside.

Feeling more like the princess of her birthright, she again ventures forth and starts the climb towards the glittering palace of her uncle.
